In his imperialistic greed, Donald Trump hopes to exhibit Cuba’s scalp, after having brought Venezuela to heel, or so he believes, with the abduction and kidnapping of its president, Nicolas Maduro. Not a week goes by without Washington announcing new measures of coercion that reinforce a blockade already devastating for the Cuban economy but especially for the population.
The lives of the inhabitants are a perpetual worn-out system that still stands. This resistance is an insult to the eyes of the White House, which intensifies its illegal sanctions.
The fate reserved for Cuba should alert chancelleries. The U.S. policy violates all diplomatic principles governing international relations. According to the proto-fascist administration, Havana, which has never declared war on anyone, would threaten the security of the United States with a fleet of drones ready to attack the torture enclave that is the U.S. prison at Guantanamo.
The accusation is laughable, but taken very seriously. Just like the legal stratagem that would involve indicting Raul Castro. Needless to say, the accusations against the former Cuban president relate to the defense of Cuba’s territorial integrity against Washington’s consistent sabotage.
This adds to the long list of what the homeland of José Marti has endured since the revolution in 1959: the explosion of the ship “La Coubre,” the Bay of Pigs invasion, bacteriological attacks, attacks against civil aviation and tourist infrastructure. Not to mention the hundreds of assassination attempts against Fidel Castro.
It would take intelligence treasures to make Donald Trump understand that Cuba is not just a place of “beautiful landscapes” that can be taken advantage of. That the independence and sovereignty earned dearly by its people are not for sale.
President Diaz-Canel, who has not vetoed any channels of discussion, including with the CIA, has warned of a possible “bloodbath” if the United States dared to intervene militarily. The great powers cannot stand idly by in the face of repeated aggressions that violate international law. By bowing down, they tacitly approve of Washington.
