Carli Lloyd, a two-time Olympic gold medalist and World Cup champion, was the keynote speaker at the Third Annual Women in Leadership event at the University of Wisconsin-Superior on Wednesday.

The event was part of the Cenovus Women in Leadership program, which focused on developing future female leaders at UW-Superior and in the local community. The program was a key part of the partnership between the university and Cenovus Energy – Superior Refinery.

Lloyd is one of the most decorated players in U.S. soccer history, having earned FIFA World Player of the Year honors twice and played 17 years with the United States Women’s National Team. She holds the record as the team’s all-time leading Olympic scorer and was the first player to record a hat trick in a Women’s World Cup Final.

She finished her career with 134 goals in 316 appearances and was inducted into the National Soccer Hall of Fame in 2025. Lloyd now runs her own soccer clinics and continues her work in media, including winning FOX’s Special Forces: World’s Toughest Test.

“We are thrilled to welcome Carli Lloyd to campus to share her story of perseverance, mindset, and leadership,†said UW-Superior Director of Athletics Nick Bursik. “Her journey will undoubtedly inspire our student-athletes and campus community. We are deeply appreciative of our partners at Cenovus Energy – Superior Refinery for their continued investment in this event and for helping empower the next generation of female leaders.â€

The event was open to the public and included dinner and a meet-and-greet with Lloyd following a fireside chat. It was emceed by WDIO’s Baihly Warfield, who asked questions about goal-setting, mental health, and what Lloyd has learned from her journey as an Olympian.
