With its 20,000 square meters of grass and friendly atmosphere, the open-air cinema at La Villette is ready to offer a sparkling cinematic rendezvous for the 2026 edition. For over a month, from July 22 to August 16, various short films, movies, and shows will be projected on the famous giant screen on the Triangle lawn.
Comfortably settled in a deck chair or on a blanket, under the stars or around a countryside picnic, you can (re)discover masterpieces of the seventh art, and all for free! This long-standing tradition proves that the event, celebrating its 35th anniversary this year, has lost none of its significance. While access remains free (subject to availability), deck chairs can be reserved online on the La Villette website. It is strongly recommended to bring blankets and seats for more comfort as even in summer, the evening breeze can be felt.
In terms of programming, a first selection sets the tone. After exploring music and dance last year, this edition delves into the forest as a place of contemplation, a symbol and character in itself, as well as a vehicle for ecological messages. The theme resonates with the recent extension of the park dedicated to biodiversity and animals on 15,000 square meters, providing an ideal setting to raise awareness among both young and old while enjoying captivating films.
At 6 pm, family sessions feature outstanding Japanese animated films like “The Wolf Children, Ame and Yuki” by Mamoru Hosoda, “Arrietty, the Borrower” by Hiromasa Yonebayashi, and the beautiful French film “Zarafa” by Rémi Bezançon and Jean-Christophe Lie.
At 9 pm, the screenings take on a more adult turn with films like “The Wild Goose Lake” by Thomas Cailley, “Staying Vertical” by Alain Guiraudie, “The New World” by Terrence Malick, and “Okja” by Bong Joon-ho. This promising and eclectic first announcement awaits a more comprehensive program in the coming weeks, hopefully with a more gender-balanced selection.
