The wait is coming to an end for techies and supercomputing professionals. While AMD had already created the event by unveiling the revolutionary architecture of its Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Edition, a gray area persisted regarding the financial sacrifice necessary to acquire this technological monster. It’s now official: David McAfee (Vice President and General Manager, Ryzen processors and Radeon graphics cards at AMD) has confirmed that this processor will be available from April 22, 2026 at a price of $899.
A steep price for the French market
If the price across the Atlantic is now fixed, the pill risks being more difficult to swallow in France. Once the monetary conversion and the addition of VAT at 20% have been carried out, we should find this Ryzen 9 9950X3D2 Dual Eidtion around €924 at our resellers. A significant investment which clearly positions this chip in the professional segment, far from standard budgets.
A cache raid for pros, not for gamers
If the “X3D” badge is traditionally the dream of gamers, AMD has been clear: this model is above all a solution for workstations. For the general public, and particularly for gamers, the usefulness of this version is close to zero. The 5 to 10% performance gains highlighted by Jack Huynh concern exclusively heavy application workloads such as code compilation, 3D rendering or AI. For pure gaming, the additional cost compared to the standard 9950X3D will not translate into any tangible benefit, the games engine not yet knowing how to take advantage of such cache symmetry on 16 cores.
The 208 MB cache mark crossed
The real tour de force of this “Dual Edition” version lies in its symmetrical architecture. Unlike previous generations, the 3D V-Cache is applied here to the two chiplets (CCD) of the chip. The result is spectacular with a total of 208 MB of cache (192 MB of L3 and 16 MB of L2).
Under the hood, the 16 cores and 32 threads climb up to 5.6 GHz, all supported by a TDP of 200 W. This power will absolutely require a high-performance liquid cooling system to not exceed the maximum temperature of 95°C.
Compatibilité et flexibilité
Despite its extreme positioning, the 9950X3D2 remains an accessible processor without changing its entire ecosystem. It installs on the existing AM5 socket and supports a wide range of chipsets, from the A620 to the X870E. Fully unlocked for overclocking and compatible with Precision Boost 2 and AMD Expo, it stands out as the ultimate tool for creators who want to stay on a flexible desktop platform.
