Minisforum Unveils N5 MAX AI NAS with AMD Ryzen AI Processor
Minisforum first introduced the NAS N5 MAX AI in mid-March, announcing that it would be powered by the powerful AMD Ryzen AI Max+ 395 processor, making it ideal for running OpenClaw locally via the MiniCloud OS, in addition to extensive NAS functions. The company has now released more details on the specifications of this new NAS unit, also mentioning April 23 as the likely date for availability and pricing to be revealed.
The latest Minisforum blog post mentions that the N5 MAX will offer up to 126 TOPS of AI computing power thanks to the AMD Strix Halo workstation processor with Radeon 8060S INTEGR graphics. Unlike other Strix Halo models with 128GB of RAM, the N5 MAX is equipped with 64GB of LPDDR5X, likely due to the current RAM shortage.
For storage, the N5 MAX is shaping up to be a robust NAS solution that supports up to 200TB via 5 HDD slots + 5 SSD slots. To ensure optimal performance of all these components, including the AMD APU, the N5 MAX chassis features an advanced cooling system with a multi-fan design. Like Minisforum’s most recent mini PCs, the N5 MAX would also come equipped with the new USB4 v2 standard with transfer rates of 80Gbps, while the network component is solid with two 10Gbps network cards.
If Minisforum manages to offer this model for less than $2,000, it could be an excellent alternative to most available Strix Halo models that cost over $2,300, with the added bonus of an excellent NAS system, albeit with half the RAM capacity.
