The goal machine of 1. FC Magdeburg has started rolling again in the last few games: Ten goals in three matches give hope for the final push in the relegation battle of the 2nd league. It’s just bitter that sometimes three goals are not enough to score points. The FCM experienced this recently in Paderborn (3:4).
The fact that the Blue-Whites have regained their old offensive strength is also thanks to Laurin Ulrich. The loanee from Bundesliga club VfB Stuttgart is unstoppable in attack, plays quick passes, and impresses with dribbling. And: In Paderborn, the goal drought finally ended. Ulrich was able to celebrate his first goal of the season.
The young national team player said: “It was a long overdue goal. I was just waiting and hoping that the ball would fall to my feet like today. Nevertheless, I would have preferred a win for us.”
However, Ulrich now has more confidence and wants to shine again against Düsseldorf on Saturday! Ulrich added: “I still have many potentials that I can improve, especially in finishing. I hope I can prove that in the remaining games. Now, with the goal, my confidence has increased even more.”
He didn’t want to celebrate too much about his first goal in the 2nd league. Ulrich said: “Naturally, you are full of adrenaline. Everything starts from zero again, and you want to take three points with you. But at some point, you have to think. Due to this wild game, we should have been more awake and defended better as a team.”
Despite the strong away game being lost and Ulrich’s goal not bringing the deserved reward, the young professional is optimistic for the bottom-of-the-table duel against Düsseldorf. Ulrich stated: “We should openly address the criticism. Conceding four goals again is tough. It’s difficult to always be chasing. In the past few weeks, we have had many positive experiences. That has given us a boost, and we should maintain that energy now.”
