As the host country of APEC for the third time, after 2006 and 2017, Vietnam is committed to working closely with member economies for the success of APEC Year 2027, positively shaping the forum’s cooperation in this new phase. This was stated by Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs Nguyen Minh Hang at the opening of the workshop on strengthening preparation capacities for APEC Vietnam 2027, organized by the National Secretariat of APEC 2027, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam in coordination with the U.S. Department of State, on April 15 and 16 in Hanoi.
For more than forty years, APEC has affirmed its role as the primary economic forum in the Asia-Pacific region, significantly contributing to peace, stability, and prosperity in the region. Facing profound regional and global changes, APEC remains an essential platform for promoting dialogue, cooperation, and consensus-building among its member economies, showcasing great adaptability to new trends and evolving situations.
Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang stated that Vietnam will host APEC in 2027, as the country enters a new era of strategic development, aiming for double-digit growth and establishing a new growth model based on productivity, quality, efficiency, and enhancing economic competitiveness.
Vietnam elevates its foreign policy to a higher level, adopting an independent, autonomous, peaceful, friendly, multilateral, diversified approach, actively integrating into the international community. In this context, APEC and the Asia-Pacific region remain major priorities of Vietnamese foreign policy.
Speaking at the seminar, John W. McIntyre, the charge d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, hailed Vietnam’s role in APEC as the main forum for economic cooperation in the Asia-Pacific region. He highlighted the successful organization of APEC Years in 2006 and 2017, confirming Vietnam’s organizational, coordination, and leadership capabilities, expressing confidence that Vietnam will continue to play this role in preparing and organizing APEC Year 2027.
McIntyre affirmed that the United States will continue to work closely with Vietnam in the preparations for APEC Year 2027, through capacity-building programs, sharing experiences from previous APEC host countries, and connecting with international experts and partners.
During the two-day workshop, delegates will join international experts and speakers to exchange, evaluate, and summarize cooperation progress and APEC Forum priorities, define future cooperation directions, share experiences, and receive training on key skills such as chairing and co-chairing conferences, agenda setting, document negotiation, and consensus building.
Discussions at this workshop will positively contribute to the development of priorities, initiatives, and specific actions that Vietnam can promote during APEC Year 2027, aiming to create a tangible impact and lasting value for the region.
In the upcoming period, Vietnam will continue to collaborate closely with its partners, including the United States and the APEC International Secretariat, to implement concrete capacity-building activities for the success of organizing APEC Vietnam 2027.
On April 15, Deputy Minister Nguyen Minh Hang met John W. McIntyre, charge d’affaires of the U.S. Embassy in Hanoi, representatives from the U.S. Department of State, the U.S.-APEC RISE program, as well as international experts and speakers. She expressed gratitude for the cooperation and support from partners and discussed the preparations for APEC Year 2027.
