Google’s search engine has caught a little something: since Wednesday, searching for the words “Angine de Poitrine” displays the results page covered in black dots with three orange icons at the bottom of the window, referring to the guitarist Khn and drummer Klek’s costumes. Unprecedented, Google’s move solidifies the globalization of the Angine de Poitrine phenomenon, according to the duo’s manager, Sébastien Collin.
The general manager of Spectacles Bonza had not been informed by Google of what resembles one of their “doodles,” these small temporary animations often presented as modified versions of their logo to mark national holidays, birthdays, or other current events—the most recent marking World Quantum Day on April 14, referencing Planck’s constant (4.14 being the rounded value of its initial numbers).
Mr. Collin speculates that Google has noticed an uptick in searches on its engine for the words “Angine de Poitrine.”
“This adds to the fact that the song ‘Fabienk’ from the new album has become the most viral in the world on the Spotify platform. From the beginning, there has been a lot of talk about the group’s achievements in music, but now, it goes beyond music. Google is global,” he said.
The web search giant’s animation highlights the strength of Angine de Poitrine’s visual identity: “I wonder what other group today possesses a visual identity as strong and as simple as black peas, triangles. The phenomenon now extends beyond the fan base,” a bit like on April 1st when many companies changed their branding to resemble the duo’s dotted appearance as an April Fool’s joke.
A few days ago, the duo’s management revealed that it had declined a tour with rockstar Jack White due to their own itinerary in Europe and America; however, the group will still open for the famous White Stripes co-founder on July 14 in Toronto.
Angine de Poitrine will perform to sold-out crowds at Club Soda on April 18 and on June 27 at the Place des Festivals, headlining the Montreal International Jazz Festival.
Released on April 3, Angine de Poitrine’s new album, “Vol. II,” rose to the top of physical sales in Billboard Canada’s rock album rankings, confirmed by Sébastien Collin, who also noted the album’s excellent performance in UK sales.
The duo is now preparing for a global physical release on June 12 for markets where vinyl copies of albums had not yet been distributed.
Finally, the video that brought Angine de Poitrine worldwide fame—the famous recording of a duo performance by American radio station KEXP at the Trans Musicales Festival in Rennes—has now been viewed on YouTube over 10.2 million times in just over three months.
