The training week for Hertha BSC starts off on a bad note as two players end the session prematurely on Wednesday afternoon at Schenckendorffplatz.
Among them is unlucky Pascal Klemens (21), who takes a hard shot from Kownacki to the face during a game, falls to the ground screaming, and clutches his mouth. He needs medical attention, likely for a dental issue. Although Klemens manages to get back up a few minutes later, he has to stop training early.
The center-back has been struggling, having just returned from a months-long ankle injury. Then came the missed penalty kick in the shootout that led to Hertha’s elimination from the cup against Freiburg. However, there was some positive news as the young talent recently extended his contract until 2028.
Klemens wasn’t the only one affected; striker Dawid Kownacki also had to end the session early. Following a painful blow to the ankle, the Bremen loanee initially sits on the sidelines with a bandaged right ankle before eventually being driven to the locker room in a golf cart.
Elsewhere, there is some relief as Michael Cuisance and Linus Gechter are back on the field. The Frenchman (thigh problems) and the defender (infection) complete the session and show good form. Playmaker Cuisance is particularly needed, with Josip Brekalo still suspended for the upcoming match against Braunschweig.
Boris Mamuzah Lum and Janne Berner are missing after playing in the U23’s 3-1 win against Hertha Zehlendorf on Tuesday evening. Lum, who is in the midst of his high school exams, is currently dealing with additional stress.
