It’s not just NVidia for high-performance processors that can be used for artificial intelligence. There is also AMD (and AWS, Google, Tesla). For now, the French government is turning a blind eye to AMD. The government and the processor manufacturer announce their intention to strengthen their cooperation as part of the French national strategy for artificial intelligence.
The editorial team offers you by sector of activity:
The goal is to accelerate innovation in AI in France, to expand access to advanced computing resources and to consolidate France’s position in the global artificial intelligence ecosystem. A letter of intent between the parties has been signed.
Cooperation on infrastructure, startups, research and education
This planned cooperation covers different strategic axes, in particular artificial intelligence infrastructures, research and teaching, as well as the development of the ecosystem and startups. In this context, AMD should facilitate access to its hardware and software technologies, as well as its training programs, for researchers, teachers, developers and French startups.
The partnership provides for a deepening of the collaboration with GENCI, the Jules Verne consortium and the CEA within the framework of the Alice Recoque exascale supercomputer, expected to be the first exascale supercomputer in France. Likewise, it is planned to set up a center of excellence aimed at providing expertise, training and support to the ecosystem, and to support the development of the future AI Factory France.
Strengthen France’s autonomy
The government wants this cooperation to contribute to strengthening France’s strategic autonomy and its capacity to master infrastructure and key skills in the area of artificial intelligence. France wants to play a leading role in this area, in research and across the entire industrial value chain.
« Thanks to this partnership with AMD, we are strengthening our scientific and academic ecosystem» estimates Philippe Baptiste, Minister of Higher Education, Research and Space. The initiative must provide support to researchers, teachers and students, by offering them access to cutting-edge infrastructure.
AMD supports the development of the Alice Recoque supercomputer
« AMD provides the hardware and expertise necessary for the development of Alice Recoque [calculateur haute performance]and is also committed to working with the government on the local economic and social benefits resulting from the research carried out» specifies Sébastien Martin, Minister Delegate for Industry. He considers that the letter of intent opens the way to structuring public-private cooperation. “It will contribute to strengthening France’s strategic autonomy in the field of key technologies. France must become a world leader in AI ”.
« I welcome AMD’s strong commitment to engaging with our startup ecosystem and contributing to a more resilient and innovative environment.» reacts Anne Le Hénanff, Minister Delegate in charge of Artificial Intelligence and Digital Technology.
AMD supplier of computing platforms
« AMD is pleased to provide the tools necessary to push the boundaries of industrial and scientific innovation in France” said Keith Strier, Senior Vice President, Global AI Markets, at AMD. He is pleased that AMD is enabling the French AI community to take advantage of AMD’s high-performance computing platforms and software ecosystem. HAS
