This week, the poorly kept secret Assassin’s Creed Black Flag Resynced was unveiled with a video featuring actor Matt Ryan, who voices the central character Edward Kenway. The details and pricing were all explained, leaving nothing out. However, what was missing was a visual comparison between the original and resynced versions. The game is marketed as a visual update, so a direct comparison was necessary.
Many have attempted this, but the IGN video stood out for its UHD quality and detailed scenes, showcasing everything from sea battles to acrobatics in the fisherman’s village. It becomes evident that the original game was already well-done and still holds up in 2026. The resynced version enhances details, provides more intricate characters with stylish clothing, realistic seas adding complexity to naval combat, richer street details, and overall more vibrant life. It’s definitely more pleasing than having to deal with the Ubisoft launcher endlessly – a GOG version would be ideal!
The original game utilized Anvil, so there’s no reason for that to change, even though the engine in Assassin’s Creed Shadow always activated ray tracing by default, even software-wise. This is clearly noted in the settings as a lighting mode. It’s highly likely that achieving a smooth frame rate on an RX 5000 or GTX 1660 will be challenging, necessitating the use of upscaling and Frame Generation to excel. The presence of DLSS 4.5, FSR 4, and XeSS 3 with associated Frame Generation is commendable. Stay tuned for our Performance Test on July 9th!
