AMD is preparing its big return to the very high end, but we will have to be (very) patient

While the RDNA 4 architecture arrived a year ago now, AMD is reportedly preparing the sequel behind the scenes. But according to recent indiscretions from Computex 2026, the next generation of RDNA 5 graphics cards would be widely desired.

We will have to be patient. After an almost blank year in 2026, if not for the recycled RX 9070 GRE, AMD would unsurprisingly be working on RDNA 5, its next graphics architecture.

If the most optimistic rumors suggested a launch at the beginning of 2027, a leak now seems to speak of a much more distant calendar for PC players.

RDNA 5 not before the end of 2027?

According to information reported by the Dutch media Tweakers (via VideoCardz), which was able to speak with several partner manufacturers in the aisles of Computex 2026, the RDNA 5 architecture is still far, very far from our PCs.

Concretely, graphics card manufacturers expect to see the first RDNA 5 GPUs land during the second or third quarter of 2027. And again, this calendar is judged ” too optimistic » by other sources within the industry, who are instead counting on the end of the year 2027, or even the beginning of the year 2028 for concrete availability in stores. It is during this same period that we potentially expect new generations of Nvidia graphics cards.

As a reminder, AMD’s current range, based on the RDNA 4 architecture (which began with the Radeon RX 9070 XT and RX 9070 in March 2025), therefore still has a bright future ahead of it.

AMD’s return to the ultra high-end segment?

Unlike the RDNA 4 architecture which consciously focused on the entry and mid-range, rumors suggest that RDNA 5 would mark AMD’s big return to all segments. The firm would thus offer a complete range, integrating real technological showcases in the hope of competing with Nvidia on its own territory.

After AMD’s considerable progress in the field of ray tracing, it seems that technology is at the heart of the priorities for RDNA 5 if we are to believe the rumors that have been circulating for a year now.
