The Nevada Gaming Control Board announced it has arrested one suspect and more arrests are forthcoming involving the Fresno State basketball sports betting scandal uncovered in 2025 by a Nevada sportsbook.
The Board put out a statement late Thursday, saying it has concluded “a comprehensive investigation into suspicious sports wagering activity involving Fresno State men’s basketball games during the 2024-2025 season. The investigation revealed an alleged conspiracy involving former and current associates connected to collegiate basketball programs, who coordinated and illegally profited from proposition wagers that they made based on their inside knowledge of a player’s intentional underperformance.â€
In September, the NCAA banned three men’s college basketball players for sports betting, saying they had bet on their own games at Fresno State and San Jose State and share thousands of dollars in payouts.
The NCAA Committee on Infractions released findings from an enforcement investigation that concluded Mykell Robinson, Steven Vasquez, and Jalen Weaver bet on one another’s games and provided information that enabled others to do so and two of them manipulated their performances to ensure certain bets were won, according to the Associated Press.
The NCAA said a sports-integrity monitoring service in January 2025 notified Fresno State and NCAA enforcement staff that a Nevada sportsbook operator had flagged suspicious prop bets on Robinson. The investigation began a week later, according to the AP.
In its release, the Gaming Control Board evidence obtained through subpoenas, financial records, cellphone data, licensed sportsbook operators, and coordination with the NCAA established probable cause that multiple individuals conspired to fraudulently place wagers tied to the intentional underperformance of a Fresno State athlete during a Jan. 7, 2025, game.

As a result of the investigation, a suspect was arrested and booked into the Clark County Detention Center on May 5 for fraudulent acts, conspiracy cheating at gambling, and conspiracy to launder money, the Gaming Control Board said.
“Several additional suspects remain outstanding and criminal charges are being actively pursued,†the statement said. “No further details are being released at this time to protect the integrity of the ongoing investigation. The Nevada Gaming Control Board remains committed to protecting the integrity of Nevada’s gaming industry and will continue to aggressively investigate any activity that threatens the fairness and public confidence of regulated sports wagering,†said Board Chair Mike Dreitzer.
