At 8:04 p.m., the NWS says a severe thunderstorm capable of producing a tornado was located over Vienna, Maryland, about 10 miles south of Hurlock, moving east at 40 mph. Radar continued to indicate rotation within the storm, says the NWS.

Forecasters warn flying debris could be dangerous to anyone caught without shelter. Mobile homes could be damaged or destroyed, while damage to roofs, windows, cars and trees is likely.

The warning comes as two other strong storms are developing west of Delmarva. According to Chief Meteorologist Paul Williams, the storm generating the tornado warning is headed east, with an estimated arrival in Laurel at 8:34 p.m. and Georgetown at 8:49 p.m.

Radar indicates the storm is strengthening and could also produce damaging hail and wind gusts up to 60 mph.

The National Weather Service has also issued a Severe Thunderstorm Warning until 8:30 p.m. for northwestern Sussex County and southern Kent County in Delaware, as well as east-central Caroline County in Maryland.

Heavy downpours are also being seen across western portions of the Delmarva Peninsula. Forecasters warn that torrential rainfall could lead to localized flash flooding, and motorists are urged not to drive through flooded roadways.
