How to turn teaching experience into a structured research project? This is the question addressed by the training “Introduction to research language and thesis writing in education and teaching”, organized in spring 2026 by the Maison pour les Langues en Lorraine (M3L), a project supported by the INSPÉ de Lorraine (National Institute for Higher Education and Research in Teaching), on the campus of Nancy-Maxéville.
Intended for teachers from the Nancy-Metz Academy and the University of Lorraine, this training aims to support the initial steps towards a desire for a thesis, directly linked to issues arising from an educational context.
Split into two half-days (April 8 and June 10, 2026), the training consists of a total of 9 hours: 7 hours in person and 2 hours of individualized tutoring with a teaching researcher. This allows participants to clarify their motivations, refine their questions, and assess the feasibility of their project.
The first half-day, focused on research epistemology, brought together 15 people: 7 teachers, 3 educational counselors, 2 trainers from the University of Lorraine, as well as 2 doctoral students and 1 student in educational engineering from INSPÉ de Lorraine.
During this session, Clotilde George (Ph.D., ATILF), Alexandre Aubry (Associate Professor, INSPÉ de Lorraine), and Véronique Lemoine-Bresson (Associate Professor, INSPÉ de Lorraine) presented their backgrounds and various methodological approaches (qualitative, quantitative, and collaborative research), engaging in activities involving exchanges and reflexivity.
The second half-day, scheduled for June 10, 2026, will focus on a reflexive approach to the construction and writing of the research project. It will address the administrative and personal journey of the thesis, the role of the “self-researcher,” the specificities of academic writing, and the challenges of writing under constraints.
This training is part of the Erasmus+ Jean Monnet Teacher Training project “LangUEscape,” specifically within Work Package 4 focusing on the development of collaborative research on European pedagogies and supporting lifelong teacher training through research.
