Nicholas Angelich was one of the most talented pianists of his generation. Fascinated by the music of Mozart and Beethoven, Angelich was also very comfortable with romantic and contemporary music styles. His mother introduced him to the piano at a young age, and he gave his first concert at the age of 7. As a teenager, he left the United States for France and joined the National Conservatory of Paris, studying under Aldo Ciccolini, Yvonne Loriod, and Michel Beroff. Angelich had a passion for diverse repertoires, including classical, romantic, and contemporary works. He collaborated with notable chamber musicians like the Capuçon brothers.
Nicholas Angelich received numerous awards, including the Gina Bachauer International Piano Competition in 1994 and the Best Young Talent award at the Ruhr International Piano Festival in 2002. In 2013, he was named the “Instrumental Soloist of the Year” at the Victoires de la musique classique. He performed with prestigious ensembles like Myung-Whun Chung, Marc Minkowski, and Sir Colin Davis.
