Charlotte Cardin had never sung in front of such a large crowd that came just for her. However, she moved, got them singing and dancing at the Accor Arena in Paris with its 15,000 spectators without any problem on Thursday. She had more bite than two nights earlier in Brussels. And even a sly smile.
Published at 19:49 Charlotte Cardin aced the test of performing at one of the largest venues in the French capital. Her concert at the Accor Arena on Thursday, a venue the size of the Bell Centre, almost gave her a perfect score.
The Quebec singer was impeccable from start to finish, both vulnerable and energetic, smiling and sometimes sassy. This clearly excited her Parisian audience, who were very enthusiastic.
Performing at Bercy, the former name of the Accor Arena, was a childhood dream for Charlotte Cardin. She mentioned during the concert how emotional she was to perform there multiple times. However, she did not let this emotion overwhelm her.
She turned it into fuel that powered her throughout a performance of over an hour and a half, concluding with a dancing climax with “Feel Good,” the song that changed everything for her in North America.
The singer’s appearance on stage, elegantly resting on her grand piano, at the center of a two-level stage to perform an unreleased song titled “The Beach” was a bold choice that was well received by her fans.
Her aesthetic was very classy, focusing on elegance during her short arena tour in France that ended in Paris. Her white inclined stage was simple yet elegant. The giant screen behind the singer was also used tastefully.
Instead of complex, abstract, and atmospheric compositions often seen, she predominantly used bold colors like blue, red, orange, and white to draw attention to herself, the focal point being her voice.
Charlotte Cardin captivated the audience with her mastery of the stage, also engaging in an intimate segment with special guests, including her lover Aliocha Schneider.
Together they performed “Ensemble,” a bittersweet song about long-distance love written by Aliocha. She also had her friends November Ultra and Maro perform a beautiful acoustic cover of “As It Was” by Harry Styles and her song “Faufile.”
After witnessing Charlotte Cardin’s concerts in Brussels and Paris recently, it is clear that her French-speaking audience reacted viscerally to her songs in French. Her hits, “Tant pis pour elle” and “Feel Good,” stood out from the rest of her repertoire.
The fans’ reactions, especially to songs like “Ensemble,” will likely lead to reflections within the singer and her team, considering most of Charlotte Cardin’s songs are in English.
After giving her all in Paris, Charlotte Cardin now has a few weeks off. However, she will soon return to Montreal to put the finishing touches on her upcoming album, scheduled for release in the fall. She will then hit the road, performing at festivals in France and making stops to sing in Spain, Morocco, the Netherlands, Romania, Hungary, and even Poland.
Charlotte Cardin has won over France, but her ambition remains unchanged: she is aiming for the world.
