Tuesday, April 14 marked the start of a new edition of Kino Pocket, a short film competition proposed by the association Ciné Passion.
For three days, 14 young people from Périgord, divided into five groups, take on a challenge: to imagine, shoot, and edit a three-minute film around a imposed theme “Retro”, in connection with the event Screen Total.
“It’s the first day, they discover the equipment and start working on their scenario,” explains Julie Lemair, cultural mediation apprentice at Ciné Passion. They are accompanied by professionals; tomorrow [Editor’s note: Wednesday] will be the filming, then the editing.”
Only with a mobile phone
Accustomed to posting videos on social networks, Arthur and Aurélie already see the difficulties. “The most complicated part will be finding actors and creating special effects,” they confide, while continuing their reflection. Finding a consensus is also part of the challenge. “Everyone has their ideas, we must succeed in putting them together to make a story that holds,” says Arthur.
Accessible to everyone, the competition only requires a mobile phone. “The idea is to show that cinema is not elitist, that everyone can try,” continues Julie Lemair. “We want to inspire desires and show that everyone can tell a story.”
Beyond the technical aspect, the experience is also collective. “We will try to make something really professional,” assures Aurélie. Motivation is reinforced by the prospect of the final screening. “Seeing your film on the big screen is impressive,” he adds.
