Players and staff from Marseille, who sank at Lorient on Saturday, will stay at La Commanderie from Thursday to Sunday, until their reception of OGC Nice at the Velodrome stadium.

A new “commando operation”? The OM players, defeated on Saturday in Lorient after a match that angered the club’s leaders, will stay at La Commanderie, their training center, from Thursday to Sunday and their match against Nice, AFP learned Sunday from the club.

On Saturday, OM was beaten 2-0 on Lorient’s field, following a catastrophic performance, labeled as a “scandal” by Medhi Benatia, the club’s football director. “When I see the match we played today, even if I don’t want to talk, I have to come to the press, because it’s a scandal. It’s a scandal,” he said, very upset.

Coach Habib Beye was also said to be “very angry” after this result which jeopardizes Marseille’s chances of direct qualification for the Champions League. “I told them (the players) not to plan anything for the next four weeks. We will spend more time together (…) in the morning, in the afternoon, we will work, with a good nap in the middle. And we will work,” Benatia also promised.

Before the Sunday evening match at the Velodrome Stadium against Nice, the Marseille players will indeed spend a lot of time at La Commanderie. Training will resume on Monday. Then, Tuesday and Wednesday, two training sessions, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, are scheduled, a club spokesperson explained to AFP.

And from Thursday until the Sunday match, the players will stay “in the green” at La Commanderie, where they will sleep for three nights. “When you play this kind of match, it means you need to work on everything: the defensive line, the attack, combinations, desire, running. And also a little reminder on what it means to be a football player, the privilege when you do this job in a club like this,” Benatia estimated on Saturday.
