The 43rd edition of the 3×3 basketball tournament (open to all and played by teams of three players) is taking place at the Léon-Jouhaux gymnasium, in the town of Équeurdreville-Hainneville in Cherbourg-en-Cotentin (Manche), for three days, from Wednesday, May 13 to Friday, May 15, 2026.

A competition organized by the UST basketball club, celebrating its 90th anniversary, has caused inconvenience to the closest neighbors. Wolfgang Blandin, a tenant on 16 rue Léon-Jouhaux, launched a petition against the noise and incivilities caused by the event. He expressed concerns about the behavior of some of the 350 young participants.

Videos and photos show the street becoming a party spot after the matches, with issues like inappropriate parking and littering creating problems for residents. Concerns about cleanliness and lack of respect for neighbors have led to tensions in the area.

The city of Cherbourg-en-Cotentin has assured that they will be vigilant in ensuring that future editions of the event integrate better into the neighborhood. The club president, Olivier Véron, downplayed the complaints, stating that they have informed the police in advance and that the event has been running for 43 years without major issues.

Residents like Wolfgang Blandin are determined to address the concerns by sending petitions to the relevant authorities in hopes of finding a solution and improving communication between organizers and residents.
