And yet another round of kindness from Donald Trump. The President of the United States again reacted to Pope Leo XIV’s statements on international affairs, stating that the pope could express himself freely while needing to “understand the realities” of a “cruel world.”
These new statements come after several criticisms directed at the sovereign pontiff in recent days, during which Donald Trump called him “weak” and “inept in foreign policy,” in response to a speech by the pope denouncing war.
Trump has nothing “against” the pope
The American president also emphasized the situation in Iran, stating: “The pope must understand that Iran has killed more than 42,000 people in recent months,” specifying that they were “protesters who absolutely did not carry weapons.”
Despite the firmness of his words, Donald Trump sought to downplay the significance of these exchanges, stating that he is not in conflict with the pope and asserting that he has “nothing against” him.
