Approximately 770 Palestinians have been killed since the fragile ceasefire came into effect on October 10 in Gaza.

Three people were killed by an Israeli strike in the southern Gaza Strip on Monday night, the Palestinian territory’s civil defense organization told AFP.

“Three people were killed in an Israeli strike at midnight (…) northwest of Khan Younis in the southern Gaza Strip,” said Mahmoud Bassal, a spokesman for the first aid organization operating under the authority of Hamas.

Israeli military aircraft also flew over southern Gaza during the night, according to AFP journalists.

The Palestinian territory has been ravaged by the war that broke out on October 7, 2023, the day of the unprecedented attack by the Palestinian Islamist movement Hamas on Israeli soil. Israel’s retaliatory campaign has resulted in at least 72,549 deaths in Gaza, mostly civilians, according to a tally released on Saturday by the Hamas Ministry of Health, with figures deemed reliable by the UN. This figure includes approximately 770 Palestinians killed since the fragile ceasefire came into effect in Gaza on October 10.

More than half of the victims, nearly 38,000 of them, are women and girls, according to UN Women. This equates to “an average of at least 47 women and girls killed every day,” said UN Women spokeswoman Sofia Calltorp.

Earlier this month, two drivers working for UNICEF were killed by Israeli soldiers in the northern Gaza Strip, according to the UN agency. The Israeli army, on the other hand, claims that at least five of its soldiers have been killed in Gaza since October 10.
