The Ghana Football Federation announced the death of Dominic Frimpong, a 20-year-old striker, who was killed in an armed attack targeting his Berekum Chelsea team. Ghanaian football is in shock. Dominic Frimpong, a promising striker from the Ghanaian D1 club Berekum Chelsea, died in an attack on his team’s bus. He was only 20 years old. The tragedy occurred on Sunday. Players from Berekum Chelsea were ambushed as they returned from their match against FC Samartex in the 29th round of the Ghana Premier League.
Players still missing
According to the club, masked men armed with pistols and assault rifles blocked the bus on the road near Ahyiresu in the Ahafo region, north of Accra. They forced the players and staff to get off the bus. During the attack, several players were injured and Dominic Frimpong was shot in the head. Rushed to the hospital, he was declared dead shortly after his arrival. The police are searching for the missing players and club members who disappeared during the attack, as well as the attackers who fled.
Frimpong, who had joined Berekum Chelsea in January, was praised by Aduana FC. He scored two goals in 13 games. “Dominic was a young promising talent whose dedication and passion for the game embodied the spirit of our league,” said the Ghanaian Football Federation.
