Was it a naive initiative? A tasteless joke? A student enrolled in a high school in Modena (Emilia-Romagna) showed up in a history class with a relic from the past. He took the object out of his backpack and presented it to his teacher, whose blood ran cold: terrified, the teacher alerted the school principal, who immediately contacted emergency services.
The cause of this commotion? The famous relic brought by the student was a very well-preserved mortar shell, dating back to the First World War, explained the “Corriere della Sera”. The police arrived in a hurry and ordered the students to stay in the classroom. The shell was taken into the schoolyard and the area was cordoned off. Bomb disposal experts were called, but their intervention was canceled, deemed unnecessary. As a precautionary measure, the school was ultimately evacuated and classes suspended.
The police seized the object for investigation purposes. The student who brought the projectile may be in for a rough time: “We are certain that this was not a joke, but an act of naivety which, however, will result in disciplinary action. The actions of this student led to the evacuation of the school and the suspension of classes,” reacted Luigi Vaccari, the school principal.
