Donald Trump apparently respects no one, not even Pope Leo XIV. Last Sunday, the American president attacked the pontiff, accusing him of being “weak in the face of crime and catastrophic in foreign policy”. He also believes that the Pope is “playing with a country that wants to acquire nuclear weapons”.
“Stop! It’s time to make peace! Sit down at the dialogue table!”
The Republican billionaire clearly did not appreciate the speech given by the Pope during the prayer vigil for peace at the Basilica of Saint Peter in Rome on Saturday.
The successor of Saint Peter had indeed called for an end to war in the world. “Enough of the idolatry of self and money! Enough of demonstrations of power! Enough of war! The true strength is shown in serving life. Dear brothers and sisters, there are certainly imperative responsibilities that fall to the leaders of nations. To them we cry out: Stop! It is time to make peace! Sit down at the dialogue and mediation table, not at the table where rearmament is planned and where deadly actions are decided!” the pontiff declared.
The attacks of the American president against the Pope are firmly condemned by Iran.
“The desecration of Jesus (peace be upon him), the prophet of peace and fraternity, is not acceptable to any free man”
In a message published on X, the president of the Islamic Republic, Masoud Pezeshkian, defended the Pope, accusing his American counterpart of desecrating Jesus.
“On behalf of the great Iranian nation, I condemn the insult to your person and declare that the desecration of Jesus (peace be upon him), the prophet of peace and fraternity, is not acceptable to any free man,” wrote the Iranian leader.
It must be said that Trump accompanied his diatribe against the Pope with an AI-generated image showing him in a white and red robe, placing his hand on the forehead of a sick person in a hospital bed.
The pontiff has already stated that he is not afraid of the Trump administration and does not intend to engage in a debate with the occupant of the White House.
