The city asked residents to vote to name the place. Sarah Morant, competing with boxer Jacky Belon, was chosen. An honor and “immense happiness” for this 48-year-old woman from Bergerac, who lives in Le Buisson-de-Cadouin. “Sarah has used her disability as a challenge,” summarized Mayor Michel Cadet.

Militant for inclusion

Her life changed at the age of 16, as she recounts: “I was on a moped, a car ignored my right of way.” Deprived of the use of her legs, she began a new life by discovering wheelchair basketball, a passion that helped her “rebuild herself.” “Sport saved me, with my family,” she says.

Despite being a seven-time French champion, Sarah Morant was selected for the Paralympic Games but had to decline due to being pregnant with one of her two daughters (now 14 and 18 years old). While she now plays less intensely, in recreational basketball on Friday evenings at La Grenadière, she advocates for inclusion, especially as vice president of the departmental handicapped sports committee. She sends a message: “It’s open to everyone, able-bodied or not. Contact us!”
