2027 Presidential Election: Manuel Bompard invokes a very disrupted international, geopolitical context

It’s not a surprise, but rather a carefully orchestrated comeback. Jean-Luc Mélenchon has officially announced his fourth presidential candidacy and, the day after on France Inter, Manuel Bompard set the stage: “an extremely turbulent international geopolitical context”. Translation for the reader: Ukraine, NATO, energy, inflation, everything that creeps into daily life eventually weighs on the ballot boxes.

According to the national coordinator of La France insoumise, the movement made a decision following a “collective discussion” and chose the one who would be “best positioned”, relying on his “tenacity” and “solidity” to withstand the current upheavals.

A “solid” candidacy against external winds

Still, four times already, it’s starting to become a trademark, almost a ritual. Bompard takes responsibility and sweeps aside the objection with a wave of his hand: during a meeting with parliamentarians, MEPs, and mayors, he said he asked if there was an alternative, without any names mentioned, “there was no opposition.”

The message is clear: LFI wants to appear “united, cohesive, solid” and sell a team already ready to govern, while also reminding that Mélenchon missed the second round last time, “he missed by one point”. In a campaign where foreign policy comes back like a boomerang on purchasing power and budget choices, the insubordinate bet is simple: turn the world’s turbulence into electoral fuel, with the promise of going further this time.
