For its ninth anniversary, PUBG unveils an ambitious roadmap for 2026. Between destructible settings, new game modes and total overhaul of its arsenal, the pioneer of battle royales is preparing a real revolution, even if it means postponing its graphic transition.

The pioneer of the battle royale genre has not said his last word. WhilePUBG celebrates its ninth anniversary and still brings together more than a million simultaneous playersdevelopers are looking even further. The 2026 roadmap promises to shake up the habits of survivors with new mechanics and surprising game modes. The only downside is that the highly anticipated transition to Unreal Engine 5 will take longer than expected.

The strategic postponement of the new graphics engine

The announcement caused a stir last year, but players will have to be patient. Krafton confirmed that switching to Unreal Engine 5 will not be a simple port. The teams prefer to review their initial plans to aim for a total overhaul during the tenth anniversary in 2027.

We’re working hard to deliver the most authentic PUBG experience possible, so some of the plans have been adjusted.

To compensate for this wait, the studio is deploying an arsenal of new features aimed at deepening the tactical dimension of the title in the coming months.

Destruction, exécutions et fumée interactive

The legendary map Erangel will undergo an explosive facelift from April with the arrival of destructible terrain. Players will be able to dig their own shelters in the open field, radically transforming end-game confrontations. Miramar will host secret rooms to reward exploration and risk-taking.

Another major addition, interactive smoke makes its appearance. Smoke grenades will now react to wind and explosions, providing new strategic opportunities. Close combat also gains in brutality with the introduction of executions. It will now be possible to finish off a fallen enemy with a melee weapon via a spectacular and rewarding animation.

A total overhaul of the arsenal

Gone is the unchallenged reign of certain weapons for years. Krafton introduces meta rotations every four months. The goal is to force players to adapt their style of play each season. New accessories, such as the hybrid glasses, will appear, while underutilized weapons will be permanently removed from the game in order to maintain perfect balance.

PUBG wants to diversify its offering with daring game modes. Xeno Point mode will offer a cooperative roguelite experience where players will face waves of enemies and colossal bosses. Even more surprising, Krafton has teamed up with Starbreeze to create PAYDAY, a heist mode requiring stealth and careful coordination inspired by the license.

Finally, budding creators are not forgotten. User-generated content will benefit from new, more efficient tools, allowing the community to easily design and share their own game modes. With this particularly dense roadmap, PUBG proves that it intends to remain a key player in the genre, by trying to renew its experience.
