The closure notice, posted on the game’s Steam Community Hub by Sequoia Yang of ARC Team, is blunt about the reason: the team is “no longer able to sustainably deliver the level of experience we aimed to deliver through Early Access.” No precise figures have been communicated, no strategic reorientation has been proposed. Project ARC is a discreet release
The game enjoyed a longer development period than many remember. Originally revealed in 2024 under the working title Project ARCil a été renommé PUBG: BLINDSPOT in 2025 before finally entering early access last February. The concept was really interesting: a top-down tactical shooter influenced by Rainbow Six: Siegewith extraction mechanics reminiscent of Escape from Tarkov and the compact and nervous aspect of the interventions of Door Kickers (2014). It was a real break with the battle royale formula that made the reputation of PUBG.

According to KRAFTON’s Early Access launch announcement, the game was positioned as a bold new direction for the franchise. The ambition was there. The execution, at least as far as retaining a player base, clearly wasn’t.
The numbers speak for themselves
At launch, BLINDSPOT reached a peak of 3 251 simultaneous players during its first weekend. That’s not a massive number for a free-to-play title backed by the PUBG brand, but it was enough to suggest real interest. What happened next was the real problem.
The number of players dropped quickly and has continued to decline. When the closure was announced, SteamDB only listed 148 simultaneous players active in the game. As a reminder, this is the kind of figure that makes matchmaking almost impossible in an exclusively multiplayer title.
The game’s Reddit community had already anticipated this outcome. Publications dating from a month before the closure were already pointing out the drop in the number of players as a death sentence. Reports of pervasive cheating and persistent performance issues made the situation worse, hastening the exodus of the remaining audience.

Servers will shut down on Monday, March 30 at the following times: 6:00 p.m. KST/JPT, 8:00 p.m. AEDT, 11:00 a.m. CET, 9:00 a.m. UTC, 5:00 a.m. EDT, 2:00 a.m. PT. After these times, the game will no longer be playable.
What ARC Team said when bowing out
The team’s full statement is worth reading. She does not seek to divert attention or embellish the situation. The team recognized that BLINDSPOT “was a bold attempt to explore new possibilities in the top-down tactical shooter space” and thanked players for their feedback, saying it “will continue to inform our future development efforts.” The statement ends by noting thatARC Team will “take the time to regroup” before returning with new experiences.
This wording is important. The team is not disbanded, at least not officially. Whether this translates into a later project or if it’s just a fancy way of closing the door remains to be seen, but it’s a softer exit than many other studios have.

A difficult time for experimental PUBG projects
With hindsight, BLINDSPOT illustrates a familiar pattern in in-service gaming: a well-funded studio tries a really different approach, the audience doesn’t turn up in sufficient numbers, and the business model is no longer viable within a few weeks. The PUBG brand has immense recognition, but it’s almost entirely tied to the original battle royale experience. Translating this capital sympathy into a totally different genre is more difficult than it seems.
The speed of this closure, in less than 55 days from launch to shutdown, makes it one of the fastest Early Access releases in memory.
