Introduction

I’m going to be honest. When I first saw PUBG: Blindspot, I assumed it was a quick spin-off that rode on the PUBG name with minimal effort. A free-to-play top-down shooter from a battle royale giant didn’t really make me want to try it. At first I thought it would be a throwaway title that would disappear from my library after an hour.

After a few games, something in the way Blindspot manages tactical positioning and team coordination started to seem really captivating to me. This isn’t a traditional PUBG experience. It’s closer to a Rainbow Six Siege from a bird’s eye view with shorter necks, sleeker mechanics and a free-to-play price that removes all barriers to entry.

Gameplay

Mécaniques de base

PUBG: Blindspot is a 5v5 tactical shooter played entirely from a top-down view. Each round involves attack and defense roles, destructible cover, and a roster of characters with distinct gadgets. If you spent time on Rainbow Six Siege ou même League of Legendsthe structure will seem familiar. If you’ve only played first- or third-person shooters, expect an adjustment period.

What surprised me the most was how smooth the aiming system was once you got used to it. The mouse controls the direction of your aim and the keyboard handles movement, creating a satisfying dual-attention dynamic that rewards spatial awareness rather than pure mechanical precision.

Characters and gadgets

Each character brings a gadget that fits into team strategy. Drones, burglary tools, smoke devices and surveillance options all have clear purposes. Nothing seems too complicated. The more I explored the character roster, the more I appreciated the balance of character options at this point. No single choice dominates, which is rare for a game this early in its development.

Rhythm of the games

The sleeves are short. A full game never drags on, making Blindspot Really useful for players who want competitive tension without a two-hour time commitment. Each round is dense with decision-making, and the short format means that mistakes are instructive rather than punitive.

The only frustration that showed up early and remained was the competitive mode restriction. At launch, ranked play was limited to two-player squads, which immediately alienated groups of five friends who came to the game together expecting a full team experience.

Graphics and audio

Visual style

Blindspot runs with a tiny 3GB install size, which speaks volumes about its visual ambitions. The bird’s-eye view art style is clean and readable rather than technically impressive. Maps are designed for clarity, with destructible walls and cover objects rendered in a way that makes spatial information easy to analyze at a glance.

Character designs are distinct enough to be identified from a distance, which is extremely important in a top-down format where silhouette reading replaces face-to-face encounters. The environments are functional and well-designed rather than visually arresting.

Sound design

Audio cues have real weight in Blindspot. Footsteps, burglary sounds, and gadget activations all provide information that directly feeds into decision-making. The sound mixing is clean without being complex, which fits with the game’s general philosophy of keeping things readable and fast.

Who is this game for?

PUBG: Blindspot is aimed at players who enjoy tactical team games, are open-minded about perspective, and are looking for something truly different from the current hero game landscape. Fans of Rainbow Six Siege, Project Zomboidor even strategy games with a bird’s eye view will find the most pleasure there. Pure FPS gamers who resist adapting to new control schemes might abandon it quickly.

The game is free. It weighs 3 GB. There’s no good reason not to try it.
