The first theme was dedicated to the place of women in scientific fields under the title “But where are the girls?” The goal was to understand, witness, and act so that girls have their rightful place in sciences.
On this occasion, the organization had invited two conference speakers who are members of the association Women and Sciences, which works to promote gender equality between women and men, especially in scientific careers. It caters to a wide audience ranging from the educational world to scientific institutions, businesses, women’s networks, and generally, the general public.
Isabelle Pianet, an engineer at the National Center for Scientific Research (CNRS) Archéosciences in Bordeaux, is very committed to gender equality in sciences. Marie-Blanche Mauhourat is a physics chemistry teacher in secondary school and preparatory classes, a general inspector of academies, and a former student of Claudine Hermann, a co-founder of Women and Sciences.
The speakers attempted to raise awareness of these inequalities, starting with the students at the Aliénor-d’Aquitaine middle school on Thursday, April 2. The students’ concerns about their future in education, university, and professions were at the center of the session.

Next, the speakers met a larger audience at the Brantôme tourist office. Initially, they discussed the local female scholars from the Nouvelle-Aquitaine region such as Angélique du Coudray (1712-1794), Marie-Louise Jacotin (1905-1972), Édith Mourier (1920-2017), and Yvette Amice (1936-1993).
