And these smartphones would not only be the prerogative of digitally excluded elderly people. Young people from the so-called Generation Z – those born in the late 90s, with the explosion of Internet use – would also be particularly interested. For attractive prices? Maybe. For desires for disconnection or digital detox? Probably also.
Parents as well as children…
In an article published on the Mediapart blog, on smartphone addiction, Jacques Van Rillaer, professor emeritus of psychology at the University of Louvain (Belgium), emphasizes that “parents should delay the moment of giving a mobile phone for as long as possible. The first should be a phone without internet, a dumb phone, a stupid phone”.
On her side, American psychiatrist Lantie Elisabeth Jorandby confirms: “if you are worried about your consumption in terms of social media” – or that of your children or adolescents – “the dumb phone can be a solution”. She also insists on a “necessary family support”, including rules regarding the use of the phone. These rules should apply to all family members, children as well as parents…
