The merge is always a highly anticipated moment for Koh-Lanta fans. And this season, it did not disappoint. The tables were completely turned, and the ambassadors had to make a heavy decision with consequences. On the side of the Reds, Zakariya and Johan were able to impose their vision against Jade and Ulrich, sending Jonathan to the hot seat. A surprising choice, since Jonathan had recently joined their tribe. But for Zakariya, there was no doubt. Behind the facade, the poker player was not trustworthy. And above all, he had made a fatal strategic mistake.

Koh-Lanta: Zakariya doesn’t mince his words about Jonathan

Interviewed by Tele-Loisirs, Zakariya was particularly blunt when discussing Jonathan’s behavior. For him, the adventurer simply misjudged his position in the game. “I think he overestimated his hand or he played with his feet,” he said without hesitation. A harsh judgment, but one he stands by. According to him, the signals were clear: Jonathan had no support. “He had all the votes against him. How could he think they would fight for him at the ambassadors?” analyzes Zakariya. Under these circumstances, it’s hard to imagine a different outcome. But what seems to have annoyed the adventurer the most is Jonathan’s attitude towards the Reds. “He treated us like fools,” he laments, convinced that his comrade never truly considered switching sides.

“My priority was to honor my commitment”: a choice upheld until the end

In this tense sequence, the adventurer also emphasizes his own state of mind. Because at the ambassadors, everything can change, even for the one making the decision. Going to the black ball remains a real risk, but he was ready to accept it. “I don’t consider it a defeat in the sense that the person wasn’t stronger than me,” he explains first, before detailing his very personal view of the game: “For me, the ambassadors is about knowing who has the most in the tank.” A way of reminding that, in Koh-Lanta, mental strength is as important as strategy. And on this point, Zakariya never wavered. “My priority was to honor my commitment. These are the values my parents instilled in me,” he confesses. A speech that also sheds light on Jonathan’s elimination. While the latter hesitated, and perhaps misjudged, Zakariya remained steadfast in his decision-making.
