The South African actress opened up about her life as a single parent on the set of the Drew Barrymore Show. A life surrounded by her two daughters that she would find difficult to disrupt for a man.
At 50, Charlize Theron is capable of performing her own stunts, climbing the billboard for her new film, APEX, in Times Square, and raising her two adopted daughters, Jackson, 14, and August, 11, by herself. But she admits, “I don’t think I could ever live with someone again.” This is what she revealed on the Drew Barrymore Show, in a clip shared on the show’s Instagram account on April 28.
Independent and fulfilled
“I really think that – people think I’m joking – but I don’t think I could ever live with someone again,” she explained to Drew Barrymore, the show’s host. Being close geographically to the person she’s in a relationship with? Sure. “I would love for you to be nearby,” she added. “Like, buy the house at the end of the street.” But living under the same roof, that’s a no.
These statements echo what the actress previously shared on the podcast Call Her Daddy in July 2025. “If I make love like never before, it’s because I’m not in a relationship,” she declared. “And it’s not that I don’t want to be in a relationship, but I see things as they are. I’m not trying to fit a square peg into a circle, or whatever that damn American saying is… But when I meet someone, I pretty quickly see where it’s going.”
Putting the children first
However, the actress remains open to changing her mind, well aware of the changes to come in the not-too-distant future. “Maybe it’s because my girls are still at home, and that may change when they leave the nest,” she reflected. “But I’m looking for something very specific.” For now, her children come first. “I also love giving priority to my kids, and I’ve never felt that it was a bad decision for me,” she agreed with Drew Barrymore. “And you seem to think the same way.” “It’s impossible not to,” Charlize Theron replied. “Your kids come first. They always come first.”
