She had leukemia and was supposed to undergo a bone marrow transplant, but she refused because she wanted to have a family. At that time, Nathalie Marquay adamantly rejected the necessary treatment recommended by doctors. She believes that her desire to become a mother was a true strength in her battle against the disease. After her recovery, she gave birth to her two children with Jean-Pierre Pernaut, whom she met during Sylvie Tellier’s election.
