Before becoming the wife of Jean-Pierre Pernaut and the mother of their two children, Nathalie Marquay underwent a life-threatening ordeal. At only 30 years old, the former beauty queen learned that she had leukemia. A harsh diagnosis that upended her life and led her to make a radical decision against the advice of doctors. Invited to “Les Maternelles XXL” on France 5 on Wednesday, May 13, Nathalie Marquay emotionally recounted this extremely difficult period while currently promoting her book “Méfiez-vous des morts”. During the interview with Marie Portolano, the former Miss France explained her decisive medical choice.

Nathalie Marquay made a decision against the doctors’ advice, risking her life as she wanted to be a mother. She had leukemia and was supposed to undergo a bone marrow transplant, but she refused because she wanted to have a family. At that time, Nathalie Marquay adamantly rejected the necessary treatment recommended by doctors. She believes that her desire to become a mother was a true strength in her battle against the disease. After her recovery, she gave birth to her two children with Jean-Pierre Pernaut, whom she met during Sylvie Tellier’s election.

When asked about her role as a mother, Nathalie Marquay described a close and instinctive motherhood. She played and laughed a lot with her children, taking care of them with great love and natural care. She reiterated the importance of having children, stating that she would not have undergone treatment if it meant giving up her dream of motherhood. In the end, she was able to overcome the disease without the feared transplant, thanks to a professor who listened to her choices.
