The second and final day of the Caritats celebrations, the medieval festival of Béziers, brought together a few hundred people on Saturday, May 16th on the Allées Paul-Riquet.

Costumes, medieval flute concerts, and wooden cannons brought life to the Allées Paul-Riquet in Béziers to commemorate the Caritats on this Saturday, November 16th.

Throughout the day, the public enjoyed a program of live performances: costume parades, sword fighting, equestrian shows, jousting, and cannon firing. The more adventurous could try their hand at axe throwing, tree climbing, wooden games, or pottery workshops. Numerous artisans demonstrated their skills as stonecutters, glassblowers, and stained glass artists. The day concluded with a musical fountain show on the theme of the Middle Ages.

This medieval-inspired event took some liberties with history, especially at the “medieval market and food” stands that offered cookies, invented in the 1930s in the United States. Surprisingly, there were wood engravings featuring the logos of famous car manufacturers.

Pain bénit

The inauguration of the “village” by Robert Ménard, Mayor of Béziers, continued with the distribution of blessed bread to the crowd, symbolizing “charity” according to the mayor’s words. Bread and games, therefore.
