It was the case that shook Paris, France, and the world last year. On October 19, 2025, the Louvre was robbed of precious jewels in just a few minutes. A scene worthy of an action movie, which is now set to be adapted for the screen very soon. A feature film directed by Romain Gavras, based on the facts as well as the media frenzy, inspired by the investigation “Main basse sur le Louvre” by Jean-Michel Décugis, Jérémie Pham-Lê, and Nicolas-Charles Torrent, to be published on May 27.

An anticipated film for 2028. The director behind movies like “Les Misérables” and “Athena” has chosen to portray the so-called “heist of the century” in his upcoming film. Working on a screenplay with Simon Jacquet and Mourad Winter, it is expected to hit screens by 2028, as revealed by the Film Français. The production will be handled by Iconoclast, with whom Romain Gavras previously collaborated on “Athena” and “Le Monde est à toi.”

A spectacular heist in seven minutes. On October 19, 2025, nine jewels from the Crown of France, including emerald necklace, diamond tiara, sapphire set of Queen Marie-Amélie and Queen Hortense, and Empress Eugénie’s brooch, were stolen from the Louvre’s Apollo Gallery. The robbery, carried out by an organized group, lasted only seven minutes. The thieves used a telescopic arm and angle grinder to enter the museum. Only the crown of Empress Eugénie, which the thieves dropped, has been recovered so far. The total value of the stolen jewelry is estimated at 88 million euros. Security enhancements at the museum are now underway.
