(New York) Victoria Beckham, who her son accuses of wanting to “control” his life and of trying to “ruin” his marriage, responds that she and her husband David have always sought to “protect” their children, in an interview with the Wall Street Journal on Thursday.
In a lengthy message posted in January on social media, 27-year-old Brooklyn Beckham specifically criticized his famous parents for prioritizing the “Beckham brand” over everything else.
According to him, in the weeks leading up to his 2022 marriage to American actress Nicola Peltz, they tried to convince him to “give up” his rights to his name.
When asked about these accusations by the American newspaper, Victoria Beckham, former Spice Girl turned successful fashion designer and businesswoman, defends herself, as well as her husband, former captain of the England football team, without specifically naming their son.
“We have always tried to be the best possible parents. You know, we have been in the spotlight for over thirty years now, and all we have tried to do is protect and love our children,” she asserts.
“Being a parent of young adults and adults, oh my God, it is very different from having young children. I think we are doing our best,” she adds.
The Beckhams cultivate on social media and in the media an image of a glamorous and loving couple, very close to their three other children, portraying a successful family.
“From the moment I started to oppose my family, I have faced countless attacks from my parents, both privately and publicly, transmitted to the press at their instructions,” Brooklyn also reproaches them.
David Beckham, on the other hand, did not directly respond to questions about tensions with his son, but during a CNBC show on children’s use of social media, he believed that children have “the right to make mistakes.”
