Earlier in the day on Friday, the Iranian Foreign Minister completely declared the highly strategic Strait of Hormuz open as long as the ceasefire in the Middle East lasts.
Donald Trump praised Iran’s announcement on Friday, April 17, that the Strait of Hormuz would be fully open to navigation during the ceasefire, but immediately announced that the American blockade on Iranian ports would remain in place until an agreement is reached.
“Iran just announced that the Strait of Iran (sic) was fully open and ready for complete passage. Thank you!” the US president wrote on his Truth Social platform in a message entirely in uppercase.
But a few minutes later, in a second message on Truth Social, Donald Trump indicated the continuation of the blockade imposed by the United States on Iranian ports. “The Strait of Hormuz is completely open (…) but the naval blockade will remain fully in effect regarding Iran, until our transaction with Iran is 100% completed,” he declared again entirely in capital letters.
Most issues “have already been negotiated”
“The process should move very quickly as most of the subjects have already been negotiated,” added the US president.
Earlier in the day on Friday, the Iranian Foreign Minister declared the highly strategic Strait of Hormuz, essential for worldwide hydrocarbon trade, completely open as long as the ceasefire in the Middle East remains.
He did not specify whether he was referring to the truce between the Israeli army and Hezbollah, which came into effect Thursday evening in Lebanon for a duration of ten days, or to the ceasefire between the United States and Iran that is theoretically ending on April 22.
