Following his individual performance in five matches at the Team World Championships, Flavien Coton saw his world ranking updated this Monday.

Thanks to the semi-final reached by the French team on Saturday, the 18-year-old table tennis player gained an additional 189 points. As a result, he climbed three places to reach his career-best ranking: 20th.

This deserved progression comes after his recent performances, including pushing the world number 1, Wang Chuqin, to a 2-1 lead in sets during the match against China on Saturday. Although Coton ultimately lost, he made a lasting impression despite never having competed as a starter for France before.

Starting from the group stage, he defeated the Japanese player Shunsuke Togami, and in the quarter-finals, he achieved the biggest victory of his young career by overcoming the Brazilian Hugo Calderano in three quick sets.

Among his teammates in the French team, only Simon Gauzy also saw a change in his ranking. He officially becomes the 4th best French player after dropping two places to 21st.

In the women’s category, Jia Nan Yuan is now ranked 21st, while Charlotte Lutz climbs to 52nd place. On the other hand, her sister Camille drops ten places to 97th. However, the highlight of Monday’s rankings is the 17-year-old Japanese player Miwa Harimoto who is now the world number 3, behind the Chinese duo of Sun Yingsha and Wang Manyu.
