Off to the island! In the summer, Marco Rose (49) takes over at Premier League club Bournemouth. And at RB Leipzig, they wonder who the former coach will take with him.
Officially, Rose can start on July 1, when his contract in Leipzig ends. It is planned for his former assistant coaches Alexander Zickler (52) and Marco Kurth (47) to accompany him, but according to BILD information, this is far from certain.
What is certain is that he will already meet three former Leipzig players at the English club: team doctor Dr. Percy Marshall, and former RB Leipzig players Tyler Adams (27/from 2019 to 2022 at RB) and Justin Kluivert (26/season 2020/21). And another current player could join them in the summer.
There is speculation in Leipzig about whether Rose will also bring midfielder Xaver Schlager (28) to England. The midfielder rejected a contract extension at RB Leipzig at the beginning of February, his contract ends in the summer, and his future is still open.
One factor that speaks for a reunion between Rose and Schlager: Both appreciate each other, Schlager was certainly one of Rose’s favorites in Leipzig. They once worked together in the youth teams of Red Bull Salzburg, winning the Youth League together in 2017. Schlager was a key player in Rose’s team due to his quality and strong mentality. Also worth noting: Both have the same agent, Andreas Sadlo (ROOF Agency).
Will Rose bring Schlager to Bournemouth?
Schlager’s style of play would suit the Premier League. And reportedly, that has always been a goal of his. When the 50-time Austrian international rejected the contract offer in Leipzig this winter, he allegedly stated that he wanted to do something completely different – experience a new culture, language, and country. There were already rumors of interest from Juventus Turin.
Schlager was developed at sister club Salzburg, moved to Wolfsburg in 2019 (81 matches/3 goals), and joined RB Leipzig in 2022 for €12 million (106 matches/4 goals).
Now he wants a change of scenery. Will it be with Rose?
