Greetings from El Rey
The Empty Shells studio took advantage of the very first edition of the Second Wind Games Showcase to lift the veil on Greetings from El Rey, a unique creation which combines 2.5D platform, spatial enigmas and paranoid narration. Presented during an event bringing together more than 90 games and 12 World Premieres, this new independent title is already establishing itself as one of the most notable announcements of the evening.
Organized by independent media organization Second Wind, in partnership with recognized figures in the sector such as MinnMax, Skill Up and EXP, the showcase highlighted an indie scene that was more creative than ever. And among the revelations, Greetings from El Rey immediately attracted attention thanks to its dark artistic direction and its atypical concept.

Greetings from El Rey: a 2.5D platform game with a confusing narrative
In Greetings from El Rey, players embody Satrapo, a protagonist launched into an obsessive hunt for the mysterious R. in the heart of a city closed in on itself. A place governed by two simple rules: entry has a high price, and no one ever leaves.
This premise lays the foundations of a universe that is as oppressive as it is fascinating. The player progresses in a city built on lies, populated by eccentric characters, incoherent prophecies and contradictory stories. The whole thing creates a psychedelic film noir atmosphere, rare in the current video game landscape.
Gameplay based on the rotation of the world and the perception of space
On the gameplay side, Greetings from El Rey revisits the codes of the 2.5D platform game thanks to a central mechanic: the pivoting 2D perspective. Concretely, the three-dimensional environments transform depending on the viewing angle, forcing the player to constantly rethink their movements.
Exploration promises complex mazes, ingenious space puzzles and challenging platforming sequences. Here, the main weapons are neither swords nor guns, but movement, rhythm and awareness of space.
The title will also offer clashes against bosses capable of distorting the world beyond the playing area, reinforcing this permanent feeling of instability and loss of bearings.
A diegetic interface designed to enrich immersion and narration
Another notable element: Greetings from El Rey will integrate a unique and diegetic external interface, directly connected to the gameplay and the story. Each player action should thus take on a precise narrative meaning, reinforcing immersion in this strange universe.
This approach testifies to the ambition of Empty Shells, which seems to want to offer a total experience, where game mechanics and narration advance hand in hand.
Why could Greetings from El Rey become a must-have on the indie scene?
With its strong aesthetic, its platform concept based on rotation, its psychological narration and its labyrinthine universe, Greetings from El Rey has all the ingredients of the future cult indie game.
At a time when many players are looking for daring and memorable experiences, Empty Shells’ new project could well emerge as one of the major surprises to watch out for in the coming months.
