The FSV Zwickau advances to the final of the Saxony Cup! On Tuesday evening, the regional league team celebrated a 2-0 victory against BSG Stahl Riesa (6th league) in front of 3600 spectators. FSV coach Rico Schmitt watched the game not from the sidelines, but from the stands.

Due to receiving a yellow-red card in the quarterfinal victory in Auerbach, Schmitt was suspended for the game in Riesa and was not allowed to have contact with the team. Assistant coach Daniel Rupf took over coaching duties on the field. Coach Schmitt positioned himself in the FSV fans section, chatting with the supporters during the game. At halftime, there was small talk with Zwickau’s Mayor Constance Arndt (48), who was also in the fan section showing support.

In the early stages, Schmitt witnessed Zwickau’s striker Lukas Eixler being substituted due to injury after six minutes. Despite this, FSV remained solid and took the lead with a header from Cemal Sezer (23′). In the second half, Riesa had a big chance to equalize through Janek Müller (54′). On the other side, Riesa’s Markus Baumann accidentally scored an own goal from a Dobruna cross to make it 2-0 (64′) – sealing the win.

The opponent for FSV in the final on May 23 at home in the GGZ Arena will be determined in the second semifinal between Chemnitzer FC and Erzgebirge Aue on Wednesday (8:30 PM).
